'THIS IS NICE’ SPEAKS WITH FOUNDER OF A.EMERY, ANNA MCLAREN, ABOUT HER NEWEST RESORT 22 COLLECTION
‘This is nice’: Before we dive into talking about your newest collection, can you give us a bit of backstory on yourself and A.EMERY? How did the brand come to be?
Anna McLaren: A.EMERY was born from my desire of a minimal all black leather sandal. A pair of sandals that could be worn in an urban environment as well as on holidays. Every Australian winter I would search the European market for a pair that I loved and would often come up short. I decided this was an area of the market I could tap into and decided to use my years of design and production experience to create the perfect black sandal.
‘tIN’: I absolutely LOVE Resort 22. Can you tell us a bit about this collection and what inspired it?
Anna: In the process of designing our Resort ’22 collection I spent a lot of time reviewing and researching knotting and tying techniques. You will see these rope inspired details in some of my favorite styles including the Joseph and Tuli styles.
‘TIN’: Do you have a favourite style from the collection? I love the Joseph Sandal in Black.
Anna: It’s always a hard pick, but I think the Tuli sandal is my favorite. Every season you will find a lace up style in our collection as this was one of the key styles I was always looking for prior to launching A.EMERY.

‘Tin’: Is there a piece of advice you would like to share with aspiring designers/creatives?
Anna: Believe in your vision and try to tune out all the noise. We are inundated with newness every second of the day – it’s OK to take it slow.
‘tin’: Do you see yourself expanding A.EMERY into apparel or other accessories in the future?
Anna: There is so much in store for A.EMERY, but we are all about slow growth and great things take time. Keep an eye out next winter though, we have something beautiful in store for our southern hemisphere customers.
‘tin’: Finally, what is next for A.EMERY?
Anna: We are currently wrapping up the development of our next collection and will be showcasing this through virtual appointments with our retail partners all over the world in the next couple of weeks.
